Nature Canada and Bird Studies Canada hosted the BirdLife International World Congress in Ottawa from June 19-22, 2013. The Congress was attended by delegates from around the world including Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan, BirdLife Honorary President. Allan’s painting “Gray-crowned Crane” was featured at the Gala in support of BirdLife International’s conservation efforts. We are very pleased to announce that Princess Takamado purchased Allan’s painting that evening! Allan is extremely honoured to have his work in the collection of Her Imperial Highness and also to have been able to support an event where many worldwide conservation issues were addressed.

Allan’s painting entitled “Gotcha! – Babe” is currently featured in the March/April issue of The Pointing Dog Journal. The painting was commissioned by collectors of Allan’s work looking to have their two-year old Brittany Red Diamond beauty “Babe” portrayed in a favourite activity. You’ll find it on page 56.

On November 3, 2012, a two-man show entitled Visions: Two Artist’s Views of the West opened at the Peninsula Gallery in Sidney, BC. It featured artwork by Allan and fellow artist Ray Ward. Many of the paintings were inspired by a trip along the BC coast that both artists took earlier in the year. For more info: Peninsula Art Gallery (Photo credit: Kevin Johnson)

In June 2012, Allan was one of the invited artists that visited the Great Bear Rainforest on the central coast of BC. The trip was sponsored by the Raincoast Conservation Foundation to raise awareness of the dramatic beauty and ecological diversity of the area, now under threat by proposed oil tanker activity. Not only is this area home to Grizzly Bears, Black Bears and numerous other species of wildlife, it is the only place in the world where Spirit (Kermode) Bears exist. Along with Humpback Whales and an abundance of marine life, this area is stunningly beautiful and definitely worth protecting. (Photo credit: Kevin Johnson)

Canada’s Raincoast At Risk is a book published by Raincoast Conservation Foundation that features all of the artwork included in the Art For An Oil-Free Coast touring exhibition. Along with the artwork, the book includes sketches and a short biography on each artist. It also features poetry and essays portraying the beauty and importance of the Great Bear Rainforest. Allan’s work can be found on pages 96-97. To purchase books or for more info: Raincoast Conservation Foundation

Resulting from a trip to the Great Bear Rainforest is an exhibition of artworks inspired by BC’s central coast. Each artist that visited the area produced and donated one work of art to Raincoast Conservation Foundation’s touring exhibition. Beginning with stops in BC in 2012, the exhibition will continue across Canada in 2013 to raise awareness of the need to protect this important area. “Swell For Now – Tufted Puffin” is Allan’s contribution to this effort.
